MUSCAT: Oman is hosting meetings of three Gulf technical committees responsible for developing standards for the electricity, electronics and renewable energy sectors, as member states seek to strengthen regional technical cooperation and support the transition to cleaner energy.
The meetings, which continue until July 2, bring together representatives from GCC countries and Yemen, alongside specialists from government entities, electricity companies and the private sector.
Participants are reviewing draft standards under the Gulf Standards Plan 2026, focusing on product safety, energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies and electricity generation, transmission and distribution equipment.
Dr Jihad bint Jabr al Busaidi, Director of the Standards Department at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said Oman's hosting of the meetings reflected the confidence of GCC member states and the Sultanate's commitment to advancing the Gulf standardisation system.
She said Oman is leading the preparation of 77 unified Gulf standards, with around 85 per cent completed, while national experts are also contributing technical reviews to more than 225 additional draft Gulf standards.
Officials said unified standards will improve product quality, support innovation, facilitate regional trade and strengthen investment in renewable energy, in line with Oman Vision 2040 and the GCC's broader economic integration goals. — ONA
